The Travel Session
The Travel Session | Deepankar Aron, Samrat Choudhury, Colin Thubron, Robert Macfarlane and Taran N Khan in conversation with William Dalrymple | Jaipur Literature Festival 2022

Travel writing is one of the most ancient forms of literature, but does it have any relevance in the age of the internet, globalisation and Google Maps? Taran N. Khan is the author of Shadow City: A Woman Walks Kabul, a lyrical memoir and meditative portrait of a city known primarily in terms of either conflict or peace. Deepankar Aron is an intrepid traveller, lensman and writer, whose latest book, On The Trail of Buddha: A Journey to the East, explores the spiritual, cultural and philosophical linkages that bind India and East Asia.

Samrat Choudhury is a journalist and author of The Braided River: A Journey Along the Brahmaputra. In conversation with historian and festival Co-Director William Dalrymple, they read from their work, discuss the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on travel writing and the genre at large.
