This illustrated book explores the spiritual, philosophical and cultural linkages between India and East Asia. It covers close to 100 destinations spread over China – Hong Kong SAR, Tibet & Taiwan, Japan, Korea and Mongolia. The book has been written in travelogue style and has 330 photographs as well.
In short, the book echoes the ancient oriental message of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutambakam’ – that the whole world of Seven billion people is one family , as relevant at the time of Buddha as it is today.
The book is also a testimony to the living Buddhist heritage that can be admired across much of East Asia.
“On the Trail of Buddha – A Journey to the East” is a unique sojourn in search of the spiritual, philosophical, and cultural linkages that bind India to the East Asian civilisations. From the wandering monks of Asia to the temples and monasteries they visited; from the statues and frescoes in grottoes to those in the museums; from the diverse ethnicities of the people to their common gods and goddesses—the book explores ancient India, beautifully preserved in the traditions, art, and architecture of China, Mongolia, Korea, and Japan.
